Adams elected Fellow of leading materials society
James Adams has been elected a Fellow of ASM International – The Materials Information Society, the leading professional organization for materials engineers and scientists. It has more than 35,000 members worldwide.
Adams is a professor in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy, one of ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, and chair of the materials science and engineering program in the school.
He is also an ASU President’s Professor, an honor that recognizes outstanding contributions to undergraduate education at ASU. His expertise encompasses computational materials, materials toxicity and autism research. He serves on the graduate faculty in chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science and engineering.
His ASM International Fellow honor recognizes “distinguished contributions in computational materials science, in particular, the development of highly reliable interatomic potentials.”
“We are proud of professor Adams’ accomplishments,” said Kyle Squires, director of the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy. “Election as a Fellow of ASM International is a tremendous honor. Jim’s research is of the highest caliber and this is a much deserved recognition.”
As a Fellow, Adams will join a forum of accomplished scientists and engineers whose members serve as technical and professional advisers to the society’s leaders and other members.
Adams will be formally recognized as a member of the 2012 Class of Fellows at the ASM Awards Dinner Oct. 9 in Pittsburgh.
